The plain weave outer surface creates an orderly carbon fiber pattern while the underlying laminate can be configured according to the structural requirements of the application. This makes the tube suitable for projects where appearance, dimensional requirements and mechanical performance must all be considered.

● Drilling, slotting and other secondary processing available
Runway manufactures this 3K Plain Weave Carbon Fiber Tube using a roll-wrapped composite process.
During manufacturing, carbon fiber prepreg layers are wrapped around a mandrel according to the required laminate arrangement and consolidated during curing. The visible 3K plain weave layer forms the external carbon fiber appearance.
Depending on the application, different fiber orientations can be incorporated into the laminate.
● Longitudinal fibers can support axial and bending stiffness
● Angled layers can contribute to torsional performance
● Circumferential reinforcement can support hoop loading
● Wall thickness can be adjusted according to structural requirements
● The outer 3K plain weave layer provides the required visual finish
This approach allows the tube construction to be developed around its actual function instead of treating the visible woven surface as the entire structural design.
Runway offers both glossy and matte finishes for 3K plain weave carbon fiber tubes.
Glossy Plain Weave Carbon Fiber Tube
A glossy finish increases surface reflection and makes the checkerboard carbon fiber pattern appear more pronounced. It is suitable for products where visible carbon fiber aesthetics are an important part of the final design.
Matte Plain Weave Carbon Fiber Tube
A matte finish produces a lower-reflection and more restrained appearance. It is suitable for professional equipment, optical systems, industrial structures and products where a low-sheen carbon fiber surface is preferred.
The surface finish should primarily be selected according to appearance and operating environment. Structural performance is determined mainly by the complete laminate and tube specification.
A plain weave carbon fiber tube is often selected when engineers require a lightweight structural member together with a clean, consistent carbon fiber exterior.
Compared with conventional metal tubing, carbon fiber composite construction can offer:
● High stiffness relative to component weight
● Significant potential for weight reduction
● Resistance to rust and corrosion
● Low thermal expansion
● Good fatigue resistance
● Flexible laminate design
● Custom dimensions for application-specific structures
● Finished woven appearance without additional decorative covering
These characteristics make carbon fiber tubes particularly useful in systems where reducing structural or moving mass can improve overall equipment performance.
Runway supports custom manufacturing rather than limiting buyers to fixed standard sizes.
For OEM and engineering projects, the following parameters can be customized:
● Outer Diameter
● Inner Diameter
● Wall Thickness
● Length
● Tube Shape
● 3K Plain Weave Surface
● Glossy or Matte Finish
● Carbon Fiber or Hybrid Composite Structure
● Laminate Configuration
● Dimensional Tolerance
● Drilling
● Slotting
● Cutting
● Other Secondary Machining
If your component interfaces with bearings, clamps, threaded inserts, sleeves, connectors or other precision parts, please provide a technical drawing showing the mating dimensions.
Runway plain weave carbon fiber tubes can be used in applications where lightweight construction, rigidity, corrosion resistance and a consistent woven appearance are required.

What does 3K mean in a carbon fiber tube?
3K refers to carbon fiber tow containing approximately 3,000 individual filaments. On this product, 3K plain weave provides the recognizable checkerboard carbon fiber appearance on the tube surface.
What is the difference between plain weave and twill carbon fiber tubes?
Plain weave produces a regular checkerboard pattern, while twill weave creates a diagonal, flowing pattern. The choice is often based on visual preference and product design. Final tube strength depends on the complete laminate rather than the surface weave alone.
Can I choose between glossy and matte surfaces?
Yes. Runway can supply 3K plain weave carbon fiber tubing with glossy or matte finishes.
What wall thickness can Runway manufacture?
The current product specification covers approximately 0.5 mm to 50 mm wall thickness, depending on tube dimensions and project requirements.
What is the maximum tube length?
Runway can manufacture carbon fiber tubes up to approximately 6000 mm in length for suitable specifications.
Can the OD and ID be customized?
Yes. Custom outer diameter, inner diameter, wall thickness and length are supported. Please provide OD × ID × length when requesting a quotation.
Can Runway drill or machine the carbon fiber tube?
Yes. Drilling, slotting and other machining requirements can be discussed according to the final drawing.
Can you manufacture according to our technical drawing?
Yes. Runway supports custom composite manufacturing according to customer drawings, samples and application requirements.
